President Obama
I think it’s great.
- First black president
- No more Bush
- No Sarah Palin
- And I’m kinda a liberal, so yeah… I also think it’s great for those reasons too.
The internets are filled with all sorts of reactions.
I loved this article from L.A. Times: World reaction to Obama victory: Elation. So full of hope…
And then there’s humor: Black man given nation’s worse job.
And I saw this on my co-worker’s blog: … all men are created equal.
But of course, there’s the scum of the internet that are bitter and try to make this amazing historical day tainted: Warning, really offensive and just plain idiotic.
I think it’s amazing that I got to witness the first election of a black president. At the same time… it is still a bit sad that it took SO long for it to happen. Again, from my co-worker’s blog: If you think yesterday was not historic….
With such progressive movement… it was sad to see that gay marriage took hits in 3 states, including the famous proposition 8 in California. Jillian said it best today, “Why is it OK for them to even VOTE on this? We don’t vote on the rights Catholics have.” And she’s right… there is no non-religious argument that holds any water to be against gay marriage.
From the wikipedia page on proposition 8: “The campaigns for and against Proposition 8 raised $35.8 million and $37.6 million, respectively.” Yes, that’s right, $35.8 million was spent to deny equal rights in the state of California. :/

People are really pissing me off with their stupidity and closed-mindedness. If I hear any more people say they’re sick of hearing how this election is so historic, or referring to him as Barack Hussein Obama, I swear I’m going to snap. If they at least had valid arguments for why they didn’t like him, I would have more of an appreciation for their arguments. Hey, Christians, maybe God WANTED Obama in power. Ever think of that?! Probably not, cause God is a Republican, obviously. Ugh.

Certainly it is Historic, but what it is not is something everyone needs to be proud of, and it is not something to unify the country. I am and was against Barack Hussein Obama for 80% of his political policies as were most republicans. The reason everyone want’s to use his middle name so much is because of a few press articles that suggested it was racist (see, those of us on the right think that is funny, and well it is.)

I never said electing Obama was something everyone needs to be proud of. And I agree. I don’t think that the country has unified and that we all should be proud that Obama was elected.
However, I do think that we all should be proud that our country has came to a point where it has elected a black president. We should all be proud that our country had a woman so close to being a presidential candidate, and we all should be proud that our country was so close to having a woman as a vice president. You may not like the president elect, the potential candidate, or the potential VP, but you gotta admit that it’s pretty awesome that our country has elected a non-white president and was so close to the other two. Even if McCain/Palin had won, even though I feared having her in the white house, I would have been proud of our country for electing a woman VP.
As for the middle name thing… I’m sure there are some people who say it to be witty in some way and to prove a point about what is/isn’t racism. But I’m assuming the people Melody is talking about aren’t, and they’re using it to be as negative as possible… which isn’t OK.

A bit off topic – but you said something that made me think. You said Palin in the White House, does the VP get like a loft apartment in the White House, maybe they stay in the guest room or something? But that wouldn’t make much sense, like during a time of crisis they have to be separated, so letting them be roommates is probably out. So, where does the V.P. live? Do they just get like a housing allowance and get to pick a place to live, or is there like a Vice Presidential condo in some Georgetown time share?

Lol… I was thinking the VP just crashed on a hide-a-way bed, or a fold-out-sofa-bed. But nope: http://ask.yahoo.com/20040712.html
